YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis

The Program Specialist Sexual Health & Disability Education (SHADE) provides education on forming healthy relations, sex education, and training on the prevention of sexual assault to individuals, groups with developmental disabilities, and youth groups. This is a part-time, 20-25 hour/week position, not to exceed 30 hours a week. The position supports, advances, and enhances YWCA Metro St. Louis’s mission, goals, and objectives.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate in partnership with Program Specialist to deliver individual and group services on all aspects of sex education and prevention for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the community.
  • Complete 48-Hour MO Standard Domestic/Sexual Violence Training upon hire.
  • Shadow experienced Program Specialist.
  • Maintain and compile accurate client documentation, including case notes, case files, client demographics, and intake assessments.
  • Regularly attend staff and agency meetings/training.
  • Assist in the training of sex education and prevention services to employees working with individuals with disabilities or youth services.
  • Must have reliable, personal transportation.
  • Other: Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or is a logical assignment to the position.

Formal Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work required with 2-4 years of experience in Human Services, Public Health, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Education or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred, Certification in Sex Education Public Health, or Social Work.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the issues of violence against women, sexual assault, domestic violence, and trauma recovery, specifically for individuals with disabilities.  Outcome and evaluation management; group and individual facilitation; case documentation.
  • Knowledge of appropriate strategies for working with multiple ages and with special populations, and knowledge of social service agencies.
  • Able to manage multiple projects efficiently, prioritize, and manage time. Exemplary customer service skills; cooperative attitude; comfortable working with individuals in distress and with those who experienced sexual violence or those connected to a sexual assault survivor.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in using the Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
