Purpose of Position 
This position is responsible for integrated fundraising initiatives to secure major gifts and in coordination with the Executive Director. Develop, manage and implement strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors through individualized plans leading to major and transformational gifts. Manage a portfolio of 100+ major individual and corporate prospects.  Coordinate projects, events, and activities in support of the major gift program.

Functions of the Job

  • Manage an assigned donor list of 100+ individual and corporate donors as well as giving prospects.
  • Coordinate and conduct prospect research activities in order to develop strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major individual gifts; set appointments with major gift prospects, conduct the meetings alone or as part of a staff team, and coordinate necessary follow-up.
  • Develop strategies for acquisition, retention and upgrade of assigned major donors.
  • Ensure donor acknowledgement (including thank you letters and tax statements), reporting, recognition and other stewardship activities related assigned donors is transpiring smoothly.
  • Develop and execute individualized donor recognition plans for the donors with a goal of capitalizing on existing recognition and stewardship opportunities; work collaboratively with the appropriate staff to ensure that sponsors and donors receive promised recognition and benefits.
  • Provide comprehensive and timely reports summarizing activity, project status and work plan timelines.
  • Utilize the capabilities of the donor information system by both recording all relevant donor data and interactions and by using the system’s analytical capabilities to support strong donor engagement and communication practices.
  • Attend key events as necessary to steward donor relationships.
  • Respond to donor inquiries and maintain excellent donor relations.
  • Participate in fund raising meetings and events; complete other duties as assigned to achieve current departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with donors and key constituents.
  • Promote and nurture productive working relationships with staff throughout U4C.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

  • Solid understanding of development principles, protocols and best practices
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage short term and long-term plans and goals
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and email applications, Altru or comparable donor software.
  • Travel required fulfilling donor and constituent relationship building and fundraising goals.
  • Position requires working occasional nights and weekends.
  • Possess a current, valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management or philanthropy or related field; and minimum of 5 years of demonstrable achievement in nonprofit fundraising with major gifts
  • Authorized to work in the United States
