Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director provides detailed research and data analysis on foundation grant making, including to peer institutions, identifies foundation priorities and tracks current trends in foundation relations.

As a non-fundraising position, the Assistant Director provides prospect research to the four front-line fundraising staff of the department and is responsible for all aspects of data management for the department’s master portfolio of foundation donors and prospects, proposal submissions and stewardship reports.

The Assistant Director compiles research findings with other pertinent information and composes comprehensive background documents on designated foundations.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proactively conduct online research to identify prospects and proposal submission opportunities. Continually screen foundation and peer institution websites to discover potential funding opportunities. Regularly monitor announcements from dissemination sources.
  • Compile research findings and analyses, and compose comprehensive profiles related to foundations. Create and update benchmarking documents related to foundation giving to peer institutions. Draft briefing documents as requested by University leadership and University Advancement leadership.
  • Maintain the department’s website, focusing primarily on the Corporate and Foundation Relations opportunities database. Collaborate with the Research Development Office in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research to ensure corporate and foundation funding opportunities are shared via multiple platforms and distribution lists. Gather institutional data (financial, demographic, and historic) as requested.
  • Manage and provide analysis of all foundation relations data, including on foundation donors, prospects, and proposal submissions. Maintain this information in University Advancement’s database modules and project management spreadsheets. Serve as initial point of contact for Foundation Relations-related questions on prospect assignments.
  • Assist in the stewardship of existing foundation donors by maintaining the master record of grant reporting requirements, advising faculty and staff of upcoming deadlines, and ensuring compliance through submission of reports
  • Ensure all gift and grant-related documents are filed and shared with departments responsible for gift processing and acknowledgements.
  • Other duties as assigned, including providing back-up assistance to Corporate Relations for the above duties.
