Description
Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville is currently seeking to fill the role of Development Associate to assist the Senior Director of Development and Major Gift Team Lead in a variety of essential projects and events to support development, alumni relations, and communication activities in the School of Business.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Handles fundraising activities including, but not limited to, solicitation, processing, and stewardship. Implements Awards Management for annual scholarship process from start to finish.
Develop donor relationships, coordinate and conduct donor and prospect meetings. Continue follow up communication with donors, prospects, friends, or alumni regarding gifts and donations at direction of Senior Director of Development. Coordinate and execute promotional activities for the School of Business in partnership with University Marketing & Communications, markets donor events, project manage the annual magazine publication, maintain the School’s website and interactive video board, social media platforms, and support all communications activities.
Coordinate non-academic events for the School, planning, organizing, and directing activities for the School which may include such areas as fundraising and public/social function activities, coordinating contact with and involvement of donors and School partners, as appropriate. Provide support for special events and projects as needed.
After each donor interaction, enter pertinent donor notes, maintain current records for all donor and alumni relations program activities, create and/or update data in RaisersEdge NXT
Provides support to the Senior Director of Development throughout the entire prospect management process including, but not limited to, prospect outreach, data gathering and maintenance, donor/prospect meeting preparation, and follow-up on action items.
Identifies budget requirements and staffing needs on a project or event basis for fundraising operations. Reconcile and process all expenditures of the development office including purchase orders, Pcard purchases, and invoices relating to distribution of development/fundraising products. Supports Senior Director on special projects as needed.
Collaborates with the School of Business Advisory Board and the Dean for activities and functions such as Board meetings and related event planning, communication planning, and volunteer management support for the Board. Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Mass Communication, Business or a related field required.
Minimum 3 years of work experience in marketing, public relations, and/or planning events or a related work experience.
Preferred: Experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations; experience with fundraising, contact relationship management (CRM) or other database software.
Preferred competencies include: Strong interpersonal and communications skills characterized by the ability to listen, speak, and write well; high attention to detail and follow-up and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact; demonstrated skill and knowledge of (or ability to learn quickly) the internal workings of a University as well as the technology tools available to development, including RaisersEdge NXT (the University’s Donor Relationship Management System), Awards Management (formerly Academic Works), Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of HTML and design software such as Cascade and social media platforms; ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting; an exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative; flexibility and adaptability to new programs in an emerging and changing environment; willingness and ability to occasionally travel to non-campus locations for University business; willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
