Missouri Organic Association
Missouri Organic Association (MOA) is a non-profit membership organization founded in 1993 by the organic farming community of Missouri. From its beginning, MOA has dedicated itself to holding an annual organic conference for its members and the farmers/producers of all organic agriculture-related production. 2023 saw significant expansion of our organization into providing technical assistance direct to producers and transitioning producers to organic practices. We are looking for an Executive Director ready to shape this next phase of MOA and deliver impact to growers, consumers, everyone in between across Missouri.
Role Description
This is a full-time executive role as the Executive Director at Missouri Organic Association. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the organization, including strategic planning, fundraising, program development, financial oversight, staff supervision, and external relations. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and works closely with the Board President and other Board members. This is a hybrid role based at the MOA offices in Hartsburg, MO. Specifics regarding remote work will be discussed with each candidate depending on their location and proximity to central Missouri. Candidates across Missouri are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the strategic vision and goals of MOA in alignment with the mission and values of the organization.
- Lead and manage the daily operations of MOA, including program planning and evaluation, budgeting and financial management, human resources, and administration.
- Oversee and support the development and delivery of high-quality programs and services that meet the needs and interests of MOA members and stakeholders, such as educational workshops, conferences, publications, advocacy, and certification.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with MOA members, partners, funders, policymakers, media, and the public, and represent MOA as the primary spokesperson and advocate for organic farming and food in Missouri.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that secures and diversifies revenue sources from grants, donations, sponsorships, events, and other opportunities.
- Recruit, supervise, coach, and evaluate a small but dedicated staff team, and foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Work with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and oversight of the organization, and provide regular reports and updates on MOA’s activities, achievements, and challenges.
- Stay abreast of the trends, issues, and opportunities in the organic sector, and participate in relevant networks, coalitions, and events at the local, state, and national levels.
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of senior management experience in a non-profit organization, preferably in the organic or regenerative agriculture sector.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as agriculture, environmental studies, business, or public administration.
- A demonstrated commitment to and passion for the mission and values of MOA and the organic movement.
- A proven track record of successful fundraising from various sources, including grants, individual donors, corporate sponsors, and events.
- Knowledge of and experience with grants from USDA, FSA, NRSC, and similar funding sources.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and opportunities.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and financial management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software and platforms.
- Willingness and ability to travel within Missouri and occasionally outside the state, as needed.
