Job Title: Volunteer Center Supervisor

Immediate Supervisor:  Volunteer Center Manager
Employees Supervised: 2-Volunteer Center Associates
FLSA: Exempt

General Description/Position Summary:
The purpose of the Volunteer Center Supervisor is to lead Volunteer Center activities efficiently and in a manner that ensures a positive, safe, and meaningful experience for our volunteer groups. Responsibilities include repackaging of donated and government food and personal care items for distribution to member agencies, which assists with the advancement of the mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Volunteer Center Manager to effectively lead all Volunteer Center operations.
  • Conduct volunteer orientation, educate the community, and ensure a safe, positive, and meaningful experience for volunteers.
  • Assist in oversight of the Volunteer Center employees and volunteer groups to ensure efficient operations.
  • Partner with Volunteer Center Manager and Volunteer Center Project Coordinator to manage projects for distribution to community.
  • Work with Volunteer Center team members to complete deployments of various projects.
  • Assist in the management of the process of kitting and assembling different project components.
  • Process product while maintaining quality control standards and inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure the storage and rotation of product in an efficient, organized, and safe manner.
  • Coordinate weekly physical inventory of Government products and reconcile inventory in tandem with the Inventory Coordinator,
  • Volunteer Center Manager, and Volunteer Center Project Coordinator.
  • Support the Volunteer Center Manager with inventory/product management driven reporting and daily inventory maintenance using CERES, which is an online platform that is proprietary to Feeding America.
  • Help monitor and minimize spoilage and damage of Government commodities.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures related to food safety, handling of all food recalls and equipment safety.
  • Support the Foodbank’s Safety Committee and ensure safe workplace policies.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager and the Facilities Manager to ensure compliance with AIB and Feeding America standards.
  • Assist in maintaining formal operational, safety, and food safety procedures for both Volunteer Center employees and volunteer groups.
  • Serve as a culture champion and support the Volunteer Center Manager in developing staff to positions of increased responsibility.
  • Ensure that the Volunteer Center Associates are being held accountable for their responsibilities as well as making sure they both have the tools necessary for development. In the absence of the Volunteer Center Manager, the Volunteer Center Supervisor will assume the responsibility of ensuring smooth and efficient Volunteer Center operations.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited university or technical college required. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
    2-5 years previous warehouse experience. Prior experience operating standard warehouse equipment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn to operate pallet jacks and forklifts required.
  • Previous supervisory experience a plus.
  • Passion for the Foodbank’s mission and the ability to demonstrate SLAFB’s Core Values: Stewardship, Teamwork, Agility and Respect.
    Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, and other web-based applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while acting tactically.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, maintains focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have reliable transportation with proof of insurance and be willing to travel to special events.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements:
The Volunteer Center Supervisor’s primary work location within the Foodbank campus will be the Volunteer Center but will also require going in and out of the warehouse.  Both the Volunteer Center and the Warehouse will involve walking and standing on hard concrete surfaces.  The Volunteer Center Supervisor must have the ability to lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds.  Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

Work schedule for this position is Tuesday – Saturday.  May work evenings and weekends due to special events and other projects related to timely and accurate warehousing and distribution of product.
