Visitor Experience Coordinator

The Visitor Experience Coordinator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) plays a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for our visitors. Responsibilities will encompass various facets of visitor engagement, including welcoming and stewarding visitors, museum store operations and merchandise, supporting CAM’s events and private event operations, and training Visitor Experience Associates. Additionally, the Visitor Experience Coordinator helps meet financial goals related to sales in the CAM Shop (in-person and online). This position is full-time and reports to the Visitor Experience and Events Manager (VEEM).

Responsibilities

Visitor Experience

/     Manage and oversee the CAM front desk by providing exemplary customer service and knowledge to visitors

/       Receive incoming inquiries from the public by phone or email and    distribute to staff as needed

/       Help train, supervise, and coach visitor experience associates on customer service, CAM mission and values, Shop product knowledge, and operational procedures

/       Assist the VEEM in supervising and supporting the VEA team to ensure high-quality visitor interactions

/       Support for the VEEM during events through assisting with training of event staff and as an on-site manager when the VEEM is unavailable

/       Assist the VEEM with private event setup and for CAM public events

/       Performs other related duties as required

Management and Merchandising of CAM Shop

/       Manage the operations and inventory of the Shop in-person and online

/       Extensive use of Shopify inventory management system on behalf of the Museum; includes maintaining updated inventory, item descriptions, shipping information, etc.

/       Maintaining the purchase order system and vendor relationships for store merchandise; includes artist consignment relationships

/       Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop Shop promotions to optimize sales and enhance the visitor experience through merchandise selection

/       Help take photos for social media promotion of CAM events and visitor experience as well as Shop merchandise and sales

/       Monitor trends and design appealing displays and layouts for the in-person store to attract visitors, working with CAM brand and templates

/       Collaborate with the Curatorial team to identify opportunities for new merchandise that aligns with the Museum’s exhibitions, featured artists, and event offerings

/       Organize and complete year-end inventory

/       Generate monthly reports on Shop sales, merchandise performance, and inventory; monitor budget, working within agreed upon parameters

/       Analyze data to provide insights and recommendations for improving operations

/       Create presentations for new incoming items to the in-person and online store front

/       Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

/       A minimum of 2 years of related experience as part of a front-facing team, including retail; museum experience preferred

/       Proficiency in customer service, inventory management, and reporting tools/software

/       Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment

/       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

/       Friendly and welcoming demeanor, with an appreciation for accessibility and inclusion

/       Strong attention to detail

/       Reliable and punctual

/       Ability to be proactive and take initiative

/       Ability to stand in galleries for long periods of time

/       Ability to work weekends, some holidays, and evenings

/       Ability to lift at least 25 lbs

/       Interest in and/or curiosity about museums and contemporary art

Working Schedule

The required working schedule for this position is during Museum open hours (Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, 9:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 1:00pm-9:00pm). Working nights and weekends is expected as required for normal scheduling and events.

Compensation

This is a full-time position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $43,000–$51,000 annually.
